Star Anise
Illicium verum · whole flowers
Flower size 2.5 cm+Star anise is the sun-dried, six-to-eight-petal fruit of Illicium verum, a tree that grows across the northern provinces of Vietnam. Lang Son alone produces around 70% of the national crop, and Vietnamese star anise is valued for its strong aroma and high essential-oil content.
Two crops give two grades. The autumn harvest (September to October) yields large, open flowers with seeds, sold as superior quality; the spring crop (March to April) is our standard grade. Both are cleaned and sorted for size before packing.
