Pepper prices on September 30, 2024, in key areas are stable compared to yesterday, between 147,500 and 149,000 VND/kg. In general, in the past week, the prices of pepper have decreased by about 1,000–3,500 VND/kg.
At the end of the last trading session, the IPC listed the prices of Indonesia’s Lampung black pepper at 6,942 USD/ton and Muntok white pepper at 9,430 USD/ton.
The price of Brazil’s black pepper ASTA 570 remains at 6,750 USD/ton. Malaysia’s black pepper ASTA is priced at 8,800 USD/ton and white pepper ASTA is 11,200 USD/ton.
The price of Vietnam’s black pepper is stable at 6,800 USD/ton for 500 g/l and 7,100 USD/ton for 550 g/l. White pepper price is 10,150 USD/ton.
Vietnam’s pepper imports from Brazil decreased sharply in August 2024.
According to data from the Brazilian State Center for Foreign Trade Statistics (Comex Stat), in August 2024, Brazil’s pepper exports reached 3,685 tons, worth 19.2 million USD. This was a sharp decrease of 23.8% in volume and 17.8% in value compared to the previous month. However, over the same period last year, it was a decrease of 28.6% in volume but an increase of 13.5% in value.
In 8 months of 2024, Brazil’s pepper exports reached 45,699 tons with a value of 183.4 million USD. Despite a decrease of 10.4% in volume, the revenue has increased by 19.3% compared to the same period in 2023. Brazil’s average pepper export price has increased by 33.2% (1,005 USD/ton) in the first 8 months of the year, reaching 4,033 USD/ton.
The key pepper export markets of Brazil in the first 8 months of the year include Vietnam, UAE, Pakistan, India, and Senegal.
Brazil’s pepper exports to Vietnam in August decreased sharply to the lowest level in months, reaching only 243 tons. It is equivalent to a decrease of 48.5% compared to the last month and 76.3% compared to the same period last year.
Overall, in 8 months of 2024, Vietnam imported 6,625 tons of pepper from Brazil with a value of 23.5 million USD, down 30.2% in volume and 16.4% in value over the same period last year. Vietnam’s share of Brazil’s total pepper exports also fell from 18.6% to 14.5% after the first 8 months of the year.
