In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam’s mango exports brought in over 88.5 million USD, a growth of 15.9% compared to the same period in 2024. The proportion also increased from 5.9% in Q1 2024 to 7.61% in Q1 2025. This item ranks just behind dragon fruit, durian, and bananas.

Vietnamese mangoes stand out with their sweet flavor, thick flesh, and distinctive aroma. In addition to exporting fresh mangoes, Vietnam also produces and exports processed mango products such as dried mango or canned mango to meet the demands of strict markets.

Vietnamese mango products are present in 30 countries, especially in demanding markets such as Japan, the USA, and the EU, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s agricultural sector. Thanks to that, Vietnam has become the 13th largest mango exporter in the world.

Mangoes are one of the fruits exported officially to the Chinese market. Thanks to its low price and high quality, Vietnamese mangoes are rated superior by the Chinese compared to those from Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia. In 2024, Vietnam was one of the largest mango suppliers to China.

Vietnam’s mangoes are famous for its quality and reasonable prices.

According to a Chinese agricultural expert on the Q2d page, Vietnam has favorable natural conditions for mangoes to grow, with few pests and diseases and very high yields. The low labor costs also make the prices cheaper. Besides, Vietnamese mangoes, Hainan mangoes (the most famous mango-growing region in China), and Guangxi mangoes have different ripening times.

Hainan mangoes are usually harvested from April to August, Guangxi mangoes from early June to mid-September, and Vietnamese mangoes from March to May. Therefore, at this time, China often imports large quantities of Vietnamese mangoes.

Notably, Mr. Daniel J. Kritenbrink, the former US Ambassador to Vietnam, once shared about his first experience tasting mangoes in Can Tho City in 2018. “That was the best mango I have ever eaten. It can be said that this type of mango is among the best in the world,” Mr. Daniel expressed.

Earlier this March, the first batch of mangoes from Tien Giang province was exported to the United States, marking a new milestone in the agricultural sector and contributing to the enhancement of the value of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.

According to the Crop Production Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the current area of mango in the country is over 114,000 hectares, with an output of more than 700,000-800,000 tons per year, and the main growing regions, such as the Mekong Delta, contributing the most.

The provinces with large areas and high production of mangoes are Son La, Dong Thap, An Giang, and Dong Nai. Mangoes are most widely cultivated in the Mekong Delta with 49,900 hectares. In Dong Thap, the area is now over 14,000 hectares with an output of nearly 140,000 tons per year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development aims to have about 140,000 hectares of mangoes nationwide by 2030, with a production of 1.5 million tons and an export value of 650 million USD.
