2025 marks a major turning point for Vietnam’s coffee industry, with exports expected to reach 1.5 million tons, equivalent to a value of about 8 billion USD.
According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the total volume and value of coffee exports in the first 8 months of 2025 reached 1.2 million tons and 6.42 billion USD. This is an increase of 8.7% in volume and nearly 60% in value compared to the same period last year.
The average export price of coffee in the first 8 months of the year is estimated to reach 5,580 USD/ton, an increase of over 46% compared to the same period last year. This result not only confirms the increasingly strong position of Vietnamese coffee in the international market but also shows that the industry already surpassed the target of 6 billion USD in exports by 2030, five years ahead of schedule.
Vietnam is expected to export about 1.5 million tons of coffee in 2025.
Although domestic coffee prices have fluctuated, export value has increased strongly. Because contracts were finalized at the end of last year when prices were high. As a result, many coffee exporters recorded revenue growth of up to 60-70% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association, the industry’s breakthrough is due to two reasons.
First, the US’s decision to impose import duties of up to 50% on Brazilian coffee (effective from August 6, 2025) has changed the landscape of international trade. Brazil has historically been the largest supplier to the US market, but after this tariff shock, the volume of Brazilian coffee entering the US went down, creating a significant gap in the supply chain. Importers are forced to seek alternative sources, and Vietnam has emerged as an option due to its high production, competitive prices, and position as the world’s largest Robusta exporter.
Second, demand from Asia has increased significantly, especially in China, South Korea, and some neighboring markets. In China, the volume and value of imported Vietnamese coffee have both increased, helping Vietnam’s market share in this market expand significantly in just the last two years. The trend of coffee consumption is becoming popular in Asia. Along with the efforts of local businesses to promote deep processing, such behavior is opening up more sustainable growth opportunities for Vietnamese coffee.
Regarding the potential for coffee exports in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association, predicts that for the entire year of 2025, Vietnam will export about 1.5 million tons of coffee, with a value of nearly 8 billion USD. This success comes from the change in the industry’s development direction, as the proportion of deeply processed products continues to increase, bringing higher added value. At the same time, the positive fluctuations in the global market also play an important role.
Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, emphasized that the industry’s orientation in the coming time is to promote the export of high-end specialty coffee, deeply processed products, and instant coffee and to continue to take advantage of Robusta. The goal is not just to increase quantity but also to increase value and build the brand of Vietnamese coffee in the international market.
