According to the Customs Department, Vietnam’s cashew nut imports in July reached over 296,000 tons with a value of over 436 million USD. This was an increase of 5.4% in volume and 4.2% in value compared to June.

In the first 7 months of 2025, Vietnam imported over 1.89 million tons of cashews, worth over 2.9 billion USD, an increase of 6.2% in volume and a significant 36.1% increase in value compared to the first 7 months of 2024.

Vietnam has held the leading position in cashew exports for many consecutive years, accounting for the majority of the global cashew export market share. This is the result of the Vietnamese cashew industry’s continuous efforts to affirm its reputation in the international market. In addition to domestic supply, Vietnam is spending a large sum of money on imports to maintain its position as the world’s No. 1 producer.

Vietnam has imported 900,000 tons of cashews from Cambodia.

Regarding the market, Cambodia is Vietnam’s largest cashew supplier, with over 915,000 tons, valued at over 1.38 billion USD. This figure represents a 16% increase in volume and a significant 37% increase in value compared to the same period last year. The average price was 1,517 USD/ton, an 18% increase compared to the price in the first 7 months of 2024.

Ivory Coast ranks second with over 278,000 tons, worth over 433 million USD. This is a 14% decrease in volume but a significant 17% increase in value compared to the first 7 months of 2024. Import prices saw a significant increase of 37%, equivalent to USD 1,555 per ton.

Nigeria is Vietnam’s 3rd largest cashew supplier, with over 218,000 tons, valued at over 319 million USD. This result shows a 24% increase in volume and a significant 61% increase in value compared to the same period in 2024. The average price was $462/ton, a significant increase of 31%.

In Cambodia, cashews are a strategic and highly valuable crop, playing a significant role in their national economy alongside rice and rubber. This country has been striving to establish itself as one of the world’s leading cashew nut producers and exporters, with high production volumes and significant export values, primarily to Vietnam.

Cashew nuts imported from Cambodia and ASEAN countries have a 0% import tax, while those imported from non-ASEAN markets have a 5% tax.

The Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS) aims for export turnover of USD 4.5 billion in 2025. To realize this, the industry needs to focus on three key points, including improving product quality, diversifying markets, and strengthening trade promotion. In the context of complex global trade tensions, proactively updating market information, adjusting business strategies, and investing in deep processing are important.
