According to statistics from the Customs Department, in the first five months of the year, Vietnam earned 2.3 billion USD from fruit and vegetable exports, a decrease of 13.5% compared to the same period last year. Many vegetable and fruit items saw promising growth, despite a sharp decline in durian exports.
Vietnam’s passion fruit exports reached 34.4 million USD in May 2025, a strong increase of 85% compared to May 2024. In the first five months of the year, Vietnam earned 89.5 million USD from passion fruit, an increase of 14.5% compared to the same period. This fruit’s market share increased from 2.9% in the first five months of 2024 to 3.9% in the first five months of 2025.
Vietnam grows the most passion fruit in the world.
In the past 5 years, the production and export value of passion fruit have grown by more than 300% and have consistently ranked among the top 10 fruits with high export value. Passion fruit has been exported to 20 countries worldwide in the form of fresh, frozen fruit and juice. With an area of over 12,000 hectares and an annual output of 200,000 tons, passion fruit is concentrated in the northern mountainous region and the Central Highlands. Vietnam is one of the countries that grows the most passion fruit in the world.

In 2024, the United States approved the import of Vietnamese passion fruit into this market, with plans for export in 2025. Previously, the Australian market had officially received Vietnamese passion fruit, along with mangoes, longans, lychees, and dragon fruit.
In mid-2022, Vietnamese passion fruit was also officially exported to the Chinese market, opening up great opportunities for production expansion.
In recent years, Vietnam has focused on improving quality, producing in a chain, and ensuring traceability of passion fruit, with an emphasis on two varieties: yellow and purple passion fruit.
Currently, the global market has a high demand, so 80% of Vietnam’s fresh and processed passion fruit production has been exported. Accordingly, Vietnam ranks among the top countries in the world for producing and exporting passion fruit, only behind Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Passion fruit is favored by many markets and has been growing strongly due to its high antioxidant content, rich vitamins and fiber, and beneficial effects on health.
