Tea products play an important role in the total export turnover of Vietnam’s agriculture industry. In 2024, Vietnam’s tea exports saw growth.

According to the General Department of Customs, in 8 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 92,800 tons of tea of all kinds, equivalent to 162.62 million USD. The average export price was 1,752.4 per ton. The result was an increase of 30.9% in volume, 33.4% in turnover, and 2% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2023.

Pakistan was Vietnam’s largest tea export market in the first 8 months of the year, with 29,570 tons, equivalent to 62.3 million USD, up 1.8% in volume and 11.3% in turnover compared to the same period last year. This market accounted for 38.3% of the total tea export turnover of Vietnam.

Vietnam currently ranks 5th in tea exports in the world.

Taiwan ranked second, accounting for over 10% of Vietnam’s total tea export turnover, with 9,769 tons, equivalent to 16.77 million USD, up 2.9% in volume and 7% in turnover.

Most notably was the Chinese market. This market rose to third place in 2024, accounting for 8.1% of the total turnover, with 9,022 tons, equivalent to 13.16 million USD. This figure was up 230% in volume and 107% in turnover. The average export price to China was lower than Pakistan and Taiwan and even lower than the overall market price.

According to China Customs, Vietnam is one of the largest tea suppliers to this country, only after Sri Lanka.

Up to now, Vietnamese tea products have been available in more than 100 countries and territories around the world, with an annual export value of more than 200 million USD. As a result, Vietnam ranks 5th in the world in tea exports and 7th in tea production.

The Vietnam Tea Association said that, in recent years, Vietnam’s tea productivity and output have continuously increased. Besides, many mechanisms and policies have been issued by all levels, from the central to local levels, to develop tea production and consumption. The tea industry also opens up many job opportunities for workers, improving people’s lives.

According to Research and Markets, the global tea market is expected to reach 37.5 billion USD by 2025. The growth rate of the tea industry is increasing due to lifestyle changes. This is a positive signal for Vietnam’s tea industry to promote exports.
