In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam’s vegetable and fruit exports to China reached 521.2 million USD, a decrease of 31.3% compared to the same period in 2024. However, China remains the largest export market for Vietnamese vegetables and fruits.
Statistics from the Customs Department show that Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in March 2025 were 477.4 million USD, a 52.1% increase compared to February 2025 and a 2% increase compared to March 2024. But in the first three months of 2025, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached 1.164 billion USD, a decrease of 9.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in the early months of 2025 decreased mainly due to a sharp decline in exports to China. Meanwhile, exports of fruits and vegetables to many other major markets have increased.
China remains the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.
Specifically, in March 2025, the value of Vietnam’s vegetable and fruit exports to China reached 215.7 million USD, a decrease of 16.4% compared to March 2024. In the first three months of 2025, the export value of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to China reached 521.2 million USD, a decrease of 31.3% compared to the same period in 2024.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that: In the first quarter of 2025, the value of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to China sharply decreased due to the impact of market regulations on durian exports. However, after a period of disruption due to new inspection regulations, durian exports to China have gradually stabilized.
Currently, among the top 15 largest export markets, the export value of fruits and vegetables has increased the most to the Hong Kong market (China), with a rise of 105.1% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 15.4 million USD. Following is the UK market, with an increase of 73.3%, reaching 12.7 million USD.
The United States is the second-largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables in March 2025, with 46.1 million USD. This is an increase of 33.8% compared to last month and a 64.8% increase compared to March 2024.
In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to the US reached 111.6 million USD, an increase of 65% compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 9.6% of Vietnam’s total fruit and vegetable export turnover.
In addition, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports in the first three months to several major markets showed positive growth, such as Japan, Australia, the UAE, and Taiwan.
Although export turnover decreased in the first quarter, China remained the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. In the coming time, Vietnam needs to diversify its export markets, apply modern technology, and comply with international standards. Over-focus on the Chinese market will limit the ability to find other opportunities.
