USA – THE LARGEST MARKET OF VIETNAMESE BLACK PEPPER
USA is the largest market of Vietnamese black pepper for first 5 months of 2019
Since January till end of May 2019, USA is the 1st market of Vietnamese black pepper. The total importing quantity is 23,800 tons, equal 66.5 million dollar. Therefore, quantity increased 26.8% but reduce 6.4% value.

As per the data report of Customs in May 2019, Vietnam spice exporters sent 38000 tons black pepper equal 93.43 million USD. As a result, increased 1.9% in quantity but reduced 0.7% in value compare with April 2019. In addition, the total exporting quantity for past 5 months of 2019 increased 33% in compare with same time in 2018. However, the value reduced 1.3%.

In May 2019, the average price of black pepper is USD 2458/ton, reduced 2.6% in compare with it was in April 2018. Especially reduced 24.5% in compare with last year’s price in the first 5 months.

The exporting black pepper in May 2019 increased in all main markets compare with 1 year ago. Proof of this, exporting king of spices to USA is 5100 tons equal 13.58 million USD. And it is increased 13.5% in quantity while reduced 7.1% in value. In addition to this, exporting quantity to Germany increased 112.5%, to Pakistan increased 104.4%, UAE increased 133%. Importantly, Myanmar increased importing this spice to 316%.

In global market, price of black pepper increased again. But the supply from Vietnam, Brazil and Indonesia is still more than demand. Therefore, the increasing trend is not expected continue for long. As per the data of International Pepper Community, total pepper production in the world is still increasing. It is estimated reaching 602,000 tons, increased 8.27%. Furthermore, total production in Brazil increases 28%, Cambodia increases17%, Sri Lanka increases 44%. As a result of increasing cultivation farms since 2014-2016, harvesting crop in Vietnam will reach more than 240,000 tons, 9% increased. However, the total pepper demanding in the world just increased only 2%.
Thus, the price of black pepper is hardly increased after 2-3 years.
