Recently, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported that tuna export turnover in the first quarter of 2025 increased by more than 6% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching over 228 million USD.

Vietnam’s tuna products have been exported to more than 75 markets worldwide, with the United States, the EU, Russia, Canada, and Thailand being the top five importing markets. According to the VASEP, tuna export turnover in the first quarter of 2025 increased by more than 6% compared to the same period last year.

Especially, tuna exports to Russia have grown significantly in February and March of this year. In March alone, tuna exports to Russia increased by 92% compared to the same period in 2024. The continuous high growth over the past two months has made Russia the third-largest single market for Vietnamese tuna exports, after the United States and the Netherlands.

In fact, tuna is a seafood export product with a total value of nearly one billion dollars. Previously, the VASEP reported that in 2024, the tuna export turnover reached 989 million USD, an increase of 17% compared to 2023.

In Vietnam, tuna are mainly concentrated in the coastal areas of Central Vietnam and the central part of the East Sea. Vietnam’s tuna stock is estimated to exceed 600,000 tons.

In just March 2025, tuna exports to Russia increased by 92% compared to the same period last year.

Not only is tuna an important export item, but it is also a food rich in impressive nutrients.

According to the American medical website WebMD, tuna is one of the best sources of vitamin D in the diet. Only 85 grams of canned tuna can provide up to 50% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for bone health, boosts the immune system against diseases, and ensures optimal development in children.

Tuna is also an excellent source of other vitamins and minerals, such as iron, vitamin B6, potassium, selenium, and iodine. Especially, tuna is wealthy in protein. 85 grams of tuna contains 21 grams of protein, while a similar serving of salmon contains only 17 grams of protein, according to the American health website Healthline.

Additionally, tuna has fewer calories and less fat than salmon. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, tuna might be a suitable choice.
