Cambodia plays an important role in Vietnam’s cashew industry. Specifically, Vietnam’s neighbor has 435,733 hectares of cashew with a yield of 508,283 tons (by 2022). Also in 2022, Cambodia exported 471,520 tons of raw cashew and earned over 1.07 billion USD. Up to 98.5% of Cambodia’s cashew export volume is sold to Vietnam.
Cashew nuts imported from Cambodia and ASEAN countries have a 0% import tax, while imports from non-ASEAN markets have a 5% tax.
Vietnam is currently the leading country in the world for cashew nut exports, especially cashew kernels, accounting for over 80% of the total global cashew nut export volume. Vietnamese cashew products are present in over 90 countries and territories.
Although leading the world in exports, Vietnam still imports a large quantity of raw cashew nuts for processing. This shows that the Vietnamese cashew industry has strong development in processing and exporting, but there is still potential for further growth in the cashew value chain.
