In the early days of 2024, the prices of shrimp and catfish in the western provinces have increased by 6,000 – 15,000 VND/kg depending on the size.
At the beginning of this year, the price of raw shrimp in the Mekong Delta went up slightly by 9,000 – 15,000 VND/kg compared to the last month. The price of tiger shrimp also increased by 6.000 – 10.000 VND/kg. With this increase, the price of tiger shrimp fluctuates from 120,000 – 225,000 VND/kg depending on the size.
The price of raw shrimp has risen again.
Mr. Le Thanh Tang (Kenh Nhat hamlet, Phu Thanh commune, Tan Phu Dong district, Tien Giang province) said that: Currently, the first crop of the year has just started so the output is not much. Meanwhile, the market demand for the Lunar New Year increased sharply. This is one of the reasons why shrimp prices have increased strongly, bringing an important source of income for farmers.
Along with shrimp, the price of catfish also increased from the first days of the year. Accordingly, from the 5th day of Tet, many fishermen in localities such as Tien Giang, or Dong Thap harvest catfish at the request of processing enterprises to operate after Tet. Due to the low supply while the demand for factories after Tet is high, the price is increasing high. In particular, for small catfish (less than one kg), the price is 28,000 VND/kg, and the profit is 4,000 VND/kg. This is the highest level within the past year.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thao – a fisherman in Hoa Hung commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province has just harvested 300 tons of catfish at the price of 28,000 VND/kg. “At this time, there is a shortage of catfish due to insufficient supply,” Mr. Thao said excitedly.
The prices of shrimp and catfish are likely to increase in the coming time due to the demand for domestic and export markets./.
