Over the past week, the export price of Vietnam’s rice has risen to the highest level since the end of April 2023.

According to experts, the cause is low supply. Vietnam’s 5% broken rice was offered at 490-495 USD per ton which was higher than the 485-495 USD per ton recorded last week.

Preliminary data from the General Department of Customs showed that, in May 2023, 213,000 tons of rice were unloaded at Ho Chi Minh City’s port. Most of the rice is shipped to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Africa.

The export price of Vietnam’s rice has risen to the highest level since the end of April 2023.

Vietnamese rice’s competitor, Thailand’s 5 % broken rice, this week was listed at 495-500 USD per ton which was slightly lower than last week’s average of 500 USD per ton.

In India, 5 % broken rice was unchanged from the price of 374 to 378 USD per ton last week. The falling rupee is boosting the profits of Indian exporters.

Vietnam’s rice export is currently a bright spot when accumulation from the beginning of the year has increased by nearly 41% in quantity and 52% in value over the same period.
