The preparation of conditions for the export of lychees has now been completed. Particularly for the Chinese market, the work of guiding farmers, cooperatives, and businesses on technical requirements for exporting lychee is going very smoothly.

Lychee export this year is expected to have many advantages.

Currently, lychee in the North of Vietnam and some key fruits are about to enter the harvest season, so the issue of consumption is always raised. Mr. Hoang Trung, Director of the Plant Protection Department, said that the preparation of conditions for lychee exports to markets has been completed. For the Chinese market, we export about 80,000-120,000 tons of lychee annually on average. This year, the work of guiding farmers, cooperatives, and businesses on technical requirements to export lychee to this market is going smoothly.

This year, Japan will assign experts to directly supervise all lychee shipments before exporting them to this market. Therefore, the Plant Protection Department has coordinated with relevant units to supervise and re-examine the entire treatment plants in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces.

“According to the report of Hanoi Irradiation Center, at the end of May 2023, the equipment required by the US will arrive in Hanoi, and the unit will install and put into operation for irradiation. If it is favorable, Bac Giang’s lychees will be brought to Hanoi for processing instead of Ho Chi Minh City as before. ”

Mr. Hoang Trung, Director of the Plant Protection Department.

For Australia, it is very favorable to ensure the technical requirements for lychees exported to this market today (Lychees to this market use the irradiation method) because currently, the irradiation plant of the Hanoi Irradiation Center can handle it.

For the US market, through many discussions, the US Department of Agriculture has facilitated us to have a recognized irradiation facility that meets the requirements of their side, the Hanoi Irradiation Center.

Lychee and other key fruits are about to enter the harvest season, so the consumption issue is always a concern.

Regarding the issue and management of planting area codes and packaging facility codes, the Plant Protection Department has sent an advising letter to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to assign these tasks to the local level. So that, localities are able to self-organize and become active in planning, determining which crops and key products need to be provided with planting area codes and packaging facility codes for export, as well as serving domestic consumption.

On the issue of why Thai fruits are exported to China more than Vietnam, Mr. Hoang Trung said in the last 05 years, our speed of signing the Protocol with China is equal to, even faster than that of Thailand (fruits and products that we need to negotiate officially to sign the Protocol).

Chairing the press conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said: “The market and prices are always unstable, we must gradually get used to these things because according to the market mechanism, it is never stable. For an Agriculture sector with 50 million farmers, we must be close with the reality, not direct just by issuing dispatches.”

Minister Le Minh Hoan asked the Department of Crop Production, the Plant Protection Department, to coordinate with the Digital Transformation Center of the Ministry to update more intuitive information, thereby helping farmers proactively   produce following market signals./.
