Pineapple is widely consumed in the world. It is becoming the “new star” of Vietnam’s agricultural export industry.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnamese pineapples are available in over 100 countries and territories. In August 2025, pineapple exports brought in 950,000 USD, a significant increase of 409%. Overall for the first 9 months, Vietnam earned 8 million USD from pineapple exports, an increase of 114%.
The largest export market is the European Union (EU), accounting for about 48% of the total export value, with the Russian Federation leading. The US market ranks second, accounting for about 20%.

Pineapple exports increased by over 400%.
Vietnam is currently one of the world’s largest pineapple producers, with a strong production base. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment show that the total pineapple growing area nationwide is now about 52,000 hectares. The annual output is over 860,000 tons. The goal by 2030 is to reach 55,000–60,000 hectares with a production of 800,000–950,000 tons. Key provinces include Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Tien Giang, and Kien Giang.
According to research, the global pineapple market size was USD 28.79 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.33% per year, reaching 39.13 billion USD by 2029. Europe and North America account for up to 50% of consumption demand. Costa Rica, Indonesia, and the Philippines are the top three pineapple-exporting countries in the world.
Vietnamese pineapple has many competitive advantages, especially in deep-processed products. Regarding varieties, Vietnam currently cultivates three main types, including Queen, Cayenne, and MD2. Among them, MD2 holds 50-55% of the global market share and 70-75% of the EU market share due to its superior quality. Demanding markets like Japan are willing to pay 4,000 USD per ton, which is 1,000 – 1,200 USD higher than in the EU and US.
Besides fresh pineapple, processed products also bring in significant export value, particularly pineapple juice. Vietnam’s processed pineapple export market is quite large, including the EU, Russia, the US, and South Korea. However, Vietnamese products face fierce competition from many major exporting countries worldwide. Low processing efficiency leads to high costs for processed products. However, Vietnamese pineapples have not been officially exported to China yet.
Pineapple consumption has been increasing in recent years as consumers become health-conscious and adopt vegan diets. Besides, pineapple powder has a longer shelf life and is used in many food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and other fields. This will be an opportunity for countries that produce and export pineapples, including Vietnam, to boost exports and expand their markets.
