Domestic pepper prices have entered a period of stagnation, awaiting further signals from the market.
The domestic pepper market on September 8, 2025, remained stable, with the average price of 151,200 VND/kg, unchanged from the previous trading session. After two consecutive sessions of decline, the fact that pepper prices remained unchanged is considered a signal that the market is awaiting new supply and demand factors.
According to reports from key localities, Gia Lai has the lowest price at 150,000 VND/kg. The prices in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc were both at 151,000 VND/kg, while Dak Lak and Dak Nong maintained a higher level of 152,000 VND/kg. Thus, the domestic pepper price range today fluctuates between 150,000 and 152,000 VND/kg, showing no change compared to September 7th. Experts believe that there is a temporary balance between domestic supply and demand.
Pepper prices are awaiting new signals.
Sstatistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) show that in August 2025, Vietnam imported 3,052 tons of pepper, including 2,873 tons of black pepper and 179 tons of white pepper, with a total import value of 19.9 million USD. Compared to July 2025, import volume decreased by 3.9% and value decreased by 6.5%.
Cambodia and Brazil were the two largest pepper suppliers to Vietnam, with volumes reaching 1,418 tons and 1,024 tons, respectively.
The US’s high tariffs on re-exported goods are the main reason why businesses are limiting imports of pepper with low prices for re-export. This both increases costs and creates risks related to proving origin.
In the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam imported a total of 34,524 tons of pepper, with a total import value of 215.3 million USD. Black pepper accounted for 29,297 tons, while white pepper accounted for 5,227 tons. Compared to the same period last year, imports increased by 61.7%, and value increased by 143.5%.
