Vietnam has exported 15,023 tons of ginger and turmeric, worth nearly 40 million USD, conquering India, the world’s leading market for the production, consumption, and import of spices.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first half of 2025, Vietnam exported 15,023 tons of ginger and turmeric, worth 38.9 million USD. Although the volume decreased by 13.1% compared to the same period last year, the turnover increased by 18.2%. These results have shown the improvement in product quality and value.

India is currently the largest export market for this product group. This South Asian country is the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices in the world, with a market size of about 10.44 billion USD.

Currently, Vietnam has about 110 enterprises involved in exporting this group.

Ginger and turmeric exports brought in 38.9 million USD in the first half of the year.

The impressive growth of ginger and turmeric exports not only demonstrates the enormous potential from the “gold mine” underground but also affirms Vietnam’s increasingly important role in the global spice supply chain.

According to the Vietnam trade office in India and several other countries, the potential for exporting ginger from Vietnam to these markets is very large. The price of this product is competitive compared to goods from other countries. In addition to its fragrance and quality, Vietnamese ginger is cheaper than domestic products in other markets.

Besides ginger, turmeric and turmeric powder are the most favored products by many consumers. Vietnamese turmeric powder is evaluated to have a nice color and pleasant aroma and retains the curcumin content in turmeric, which is a compound with many health and beauty benefits, such as fighting cancer, supporting digestion, protecting the liver, boosting the immune system, improving memory, and whitening the skin.

Vietnam has established itself among the top in the world for spice exports, with a turnover of about 1.5 billion USD each year. It is expected that by 2025, this figure could reach 2 billion USD with 500,000 tons exported.

Developing ginger and turmeric is not just an investment in an agricultural product but also a strategic step in the journey to build an ecological, circular, and sustainable agriculture, which can conquer demanding markets and rise in the global value chain.
