Vietnam’s seafood exports in July and the first 7 months of 2024 witnessed positive growth over the same period in 2023. Notably, fish egg exports in the past months unexpectedly recorded a strong increase in growth.

Specifically, in July 2024, Vietnamese enterprises exported about 272 tons of fish eggs, earning nearly 4.3 million USD. Compared to the same month last year, fish eggs exports increased by 92.4% in volume and 726.7% in value.

Fish eggs have many healthy nutrients.

In the first 7 months of this year, Vietnam exported 1,836 tons of fish eggs, earning 30.4 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, fish egg exports increased by 688% in volume and up to 3,790% in value.

The average export price reached 16.5 USD/kg, equivalent to about 412,000 VND/kg. Among the groups of aquaculture products, the average export price of fish eggs is in the top of the highest price items. Meanwhile, the export price of salmon is only 10.6 USD/kg and crab is 9.8 USD/kg.

Last year, Vietnam exported nearly 4,000 tons of fish eggs of all kinds with a turnover of 65.8 million USD, down 5.5% in volume but up 3.7% in value compared to 2022.

Vietnamese fish egg has a firm foothold in the markets because of its price. Fish eggs have many healthy nutrients. Compared to Japan or other countries with advantages in the sea, Vietnamese fish eggs have good feedback on prices, so they are very favored by foreigners.

The domestic price of fish eggs is about 320,000–350,000 VND/kg. Export goods are strictly selected, so the price is higher at about 400,000-500,000 VND/kg.

In addition, in recent years, Vietnamese sturgeon caviar, the “black diamond” of the ocean, has also appeared on the “world dining table” with a quality similar to famous countries. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam has been raising sturgeon, cold-water seafood, since 2005. The development of sturgeon farming for many years in the northern mountainous provinces and the Central Highlands has contributed to bringing Vietnam into the group of 10 countries with the largest sturgeon production in the world.

Although the size is smaller than the famous types of fish eggs in the world, the color and taste are extremely similar, so Vietnamese sturgeon caviar are favored, even exported backwards to Russia and European countries such as France, Belgium, and Germany.
