After more than a month of price decreases, durian prices in Tien Giang province have increased again in recent days. Farmers are so excited with high profits.
Currently, traders come directly to the gardens to buy durians at prices increased by 15,000 – 20,000 VND/kg compared to before Tet. Specifically, the price of Monthong durian (type 1) is over 75,000 VND/kg, and Ri6 is over 50,000 VND/kg. The price of durian that businesses buy at the warehouse is higher by 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg.
Durians are strictly inspected to meet standards before being exported.
With this price, farmers have a profit of 10,000 – 20,000 VND/kg (depending on the type). Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, a gardener in Hau My Trinh commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province, who has just harvested one hectare of durian, said, “The price of durian was very low the other day, but now it has started to increase, and the traders are even offering more.” My garden has Ri6 and Monthong, both of which have increased in price. With this price, farmers will make a profit.
Tien Giang province currently has an area of more than 24,500 hectares of durian cultivation, with a production of about 458,000 tons. To export to the Chinese market, the locality has been granted 155 growing area codes, covering nearly 7,000 hectares, and 65 codes for packaging facilities.
At the moment, the authorities are continuing to strengthen the inspection and management of these codes. They are resolutely proposing the suspension or cancellation of codes that do not comply with the requirements and conditions. Before export, durians are inspected to ensure that they meet the quality and regulatory standards of the importing country.
