Durian prices have cooled down compared to last year; however, exports still bring in over half a billion USD per month, and even up to 800 million USD.

On October 1st, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association released detailed information about durian exports in August 2025, with a value of 589 million USD. This result is an increase of 55% compared to July 2025 and 10% compared to the same period last year. It is a record export figure for August since Vietnam signed the protocol for exporting durian to China.

In the first 8 months of 2025, durian exports reached 1.79 billion USD, down 16% compared to the same period last year due to the impact of the early months.

The Chinese market still holds a high market share, with imports reaching 572 million USD in August 2025 alone, accounting for 97% of the entire industry. Over the first 8 months of the year, China imported 1.628 billion USD of durian, representing 91% of the market share.

Among the top 10 durian import markets for Vietnam in the first 8 months of the year, Malaysia experienced the highest growth, with an increase of over 1,026%, reaching 1.85 million USD.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary General of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, added that the durian industry reaches its peak in exports every September. Thanks to favorable developments in recent times, durian is expected to bring in 700–800 USD, with over 90% coming from the Chinese market.

Durian exports are expected to grow again starting in June 2025. This is a highly seasonal product.

According to Mr. Nguyen, September is the peak harvest time in the Central Highlands, resulting in high yields. The main durian variety is Dona (Monthong, Thai), which has a higher selling price compared to Ri6 durian, and there is strong demand from the Chinese market.

This year, the price of durian has cooled down somewhat, but thanks to increased production, durian exports are booming. Many durian growers in Dak Lak said that the price of durian offered by traders has decreased significantly.

Last year, many farmers sold durian for over 80,000 VND/kg at the garden, while this year, it’s only over 60,000 VND/kg, or even under 30,000 VND/kg. Some farmers said that they no longer make a profit due to the labor and high investment costs.

According to Mr. Nguyen, farmers do not expect the price of durian to decrease, but from the perspective of the entire industry, this is a favorable factor for sales. Not only fresh durian exports but also frozen and processed durian further expand the market. Previously, the price of durian was too high, making it difficult for many consumers to buy.

On October 1st, in the Central Highlands, the price of Dona durian grade A is 85,000 VND/kg, while grade B is 20,000 VND/kg lower. Compared to last week, the price of durian has decreased by 2,000–5,000 VND per kilogram.
