Notably, except for China, Thailand is the largest importer of Vietnamese durian in the world. Thai people spent up to 47 million USD to import durians from Vietnam, up 90.5% over the same period in 2023.

In addition to these two major markets, Japan and Cambodia have increased their purchases of Vietnamese durian. Accordingly, Japan spent nearly 2.7 million USD, and Cambodia spent nearly 1.7 million USD. This was an increase of twice and 23 times, respectively, over the same period last year. Cambodia is in 9th place above South Korea at 1.4 million USD.

In contrast, there are two other markets with declining durian export turnover: the US reached 7.8 million USD, down 43%, ranked 5th, and Taiwan reached 11.5 million USD, down 0.8%, ranked 4th.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the VINAFRUIT, said that durian is making a great contribution to the export turnover of vegetables and fruits. By the end of the year, durian exports could reach about three billion USD, bringing great revenue to Vietnam and improving farmers’ lives.

Besides, Vietnam and China have completed technical negotiations and will soon sign the Protocol on exporting frozen durian. Other products, such as medicinal herbs, coconuts, and frozen fruits, will be welcomed by China in the coming time.
