The price of durian is currently very positive, tending to continue to increase until the end of the year. This is bringing good sales to Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that, from now until the end of the year, the industry will focus on the Northeast Asian market. Besides, potential markets, such as China, Korea, and Japan, will help Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reach the target of 7 billion USD in 2024.
Durian exports are expected to contribute 3 billion USD this year.
In addition to durian and dragon fruit, strategic commodities such as bananas, mangoes, jackfruit, coconut, lychee, longan, or watermelon will also contribute to Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export sales, reaching 7 billion USD this year.
China, Korea, and Japan are dominating the import of vegetables and fruits from Vietnam. Specifically, China spent 2.161 billion USD to import vegetables and fruits, Korea 164 million USD, and Japan 98 million USD. In particular, Korea rose to the 2nd position, pushing the US to the 3rd position.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian will continue to bring great export value in 2024, followed by other valuable fruits such as dragon fruit, banana, mango, jackfruit, coconut, lychee, longan, and watermelon. These are strategic items, contributing to Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports of 6.5–7 billion USD this year.
Durian is expected to bring about 3 billion USD, dragon fruit about 600–650 million USD, mango about 250 million USD, coconut about 240–250 million USD, and jackfruit about 200 million USD.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nguyen also said that the price of durian is now more than 100,000 VND/kg. This is a very positive price level, tending to continue to increase from now to the end of the year. Durian production from the Central Highlands is still very large, while the crop has already ended in neighboring countries. Vietnamese durians will dominate the market and bring good sales to Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in the last months of the year.
