Step by step forming the macadamia industry by the product value chain from planting to processing and consumption; strengthening socialization, attracting investment resources from economic sectors for the sustainable development of macadamia.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has just signed Decision No. 344/QD-TTG on 15/3/2022 on approving the sustainable development project of macadamia between 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050.
The export turnover value of macadamia is forecast about 2.5 billion USD in 2050
The goal is to develop the macadamia into an efficient and sustainable production industry, contributing to the implementation of the Strategy on sustainable agriculture and rural development between 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, socio-economic development, environmental protection, and ensuring national defense and security.
The project strives for the yield of processed macadamia to reach about 130,000 tons by 2030, and about 500,000 tons by 2050.
The export turnover of macadamia products will reach about 400 million USD by 2030, and about 2.5 billion USD by 2050, of which, the percentage of macadamia with shell products will not exceed 40%.
According to the orientation, the total growing area of the whole country is targeted to reach 130,000 – 150,000 hectares by 2030. It is concentrated in the Northwest provinces (about 75,000 – 95,000 hectares, mainly in Dien Bien, and Lai Chau), the Central Highlands (about 45,000 hectares, mainly in Lam Dong, Dak Nong, and Kon Tum), and some localities with favorable climate and soil conditions suitable to the ecological requirements of macadamia trees (about 10,000 hectares). The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and localities will identify the size and specific location based on a careful assessment of potential, investment capacity, land fund, economic, social, and environmental efficiency, and market demand.
Generally, the assessment of macadamia development efficiency between 2021-2030 will provide direction on the size and growing area of macadamia to 2050, striving to reach about 250,000 hectares.

Regarding processing facilities, by 2030, economic sectors are encouraged to invest in the construction of facilities for processing macadamia attached to material areas in the Northwest and Central Highlands. In particular, 65 existing processing facilities should be upgraded, about 300-400 new processing facilities with a capacity of 100 – 200 tons/ year/facility need to be built. Besides, enterprises also need investment resources to build eight deep processing factories for high-value macadamia with a capacity of 10,000 – 15,000 tons of fresh seeds/year/factory in areas with favorable conditions.
Building focused macadamia growing areas
The Government encourages enterprises to associate with farmers through the connection of cooperatives and cooperative groups to build focused macadamia growing areas, forming chains of macadamia production from cultivation to processing and consumption of products.
Scientists assist localities in studying appropriate macadamia growing areas for each line/variety; transferring technologies of planting, caring, harvesting, pre-processing, and processing to households and enterprises.
Building a brand name for macadamia products
(High nutritions value in Vietnamese Macadamia)
To develop the domestic consumption market, the localities need support in building a brand name for macadamia products associated with geographical indications. In addition, promotional activities, and propaganda should be made to help domestic consumers have enough information about macadamia products.
Regarding export markets, localities should continue to closely coordinate with ministries, Vietnam Macadamia Association, and enterprises to expand export markets, remove trade barriers, and promote exports of official products.
