Vietnam is the leading supplier of robusta coffee to the US. When considering all other types of coffee (Arabica, Culi, Cherry, or Moka), Vietnam ranks third (after Brazil and Colombia). From April 9, 2025, the US imposes a temporary 10% tax on coffee imported from Vietnam, replacing the previous 0% tax.
Currently, Vietnamese coffee exported to the US uses HS codes in the 0901 group, depending on the product form. Correctly classifying the HS code helps ensure accurate customs procedures and import taxes according to US regulations.
In April 2025, coffee prices in Vietnam increased strongly, ranging from 129,000 to 132,100 VND/kg, marking a record high in many years. The main reason is the severe drought in Brazil and the Central Highlands, which has reduced production, while production and transportation costs have increased. In addition, global trade tensions and the imposition of import tariffs in the US have also contributed to a significant increase in world coffee prices.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has lowered its coffee production forecast for Vietnam in the 2024-2025 crop to 29 million bags (60kg per bag), a decrease of 3.65% from the previous forecast.
