At the Xa Mat International Border Gate area, Tan Bien district, many trucks carrying thousands of tons of cassava and dried cassava slices are rushing to warehouses each day. The traders who buy cassava said that the price of cassava has never been as low as it is now.
The price of fresh cassava is 1,900 VND/kg to 2,000 VND/kg, which is the lowest price in the past 10 years.
The price of dried cassava slices is now around 3,600 VND/kg. In previous years, the price of fresh cassava fluctuated around 3,000 VND/kg, but this year the price has decreased strongly. If this situation continues, farmers cannot make a profit after the harvest.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Xuan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh Province, said that there are many reasons causing a sharp decline of cassava prices over the past 10 years. The main reason is China’s reduction in cassava slice imports. Currently, the price of corn has dropped, and processing factories in China have increased the use of corn to replace cassava slices, leading to a serious decrease in the demand for cassava slices.
