The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has set a target of 4.5 billion USD for the cashew exports in 2025. To achieve this goal, exports in the last four months of the year need to reach about 1.22 billion USD. This is a possible goal, as cashew consumption often increases significantly during the year-end holiday seasons.
In August 2025, Vietnam exported 69.51 thousand tons of cashew nuts, worth 472.79 million USD. This is an increase of 2.3% in volume and 2.8% in value compared to July 2025. Also compared to August 2024, there is an increase of 1.2% in volume and 11.5% in value.
In the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam exported a total of 482,300 tons of cashew nuts, valued at 3.28 billion USD. This result shows a 1.3% decrease in volume but a 17.9% increase in value compared to the same period in 2024.
The average export price of Vietnamese cashew nuts reached 6,804 USD/ton, an increase of 19.4% compared to the same period last year. Improved export prices contributed to an increase in the export value of this billion-dollar agricultural product.
Cashew nut exports in 2025 are expected to reach 4.5 billion USD in value.
China, the US, and the Netherlands continued to be Vietnam’s top three cashew nut consuming markets in the first 8 months of 2025, accounting for 22.4%, 19.6%, and 9.1% of the market share (by volume), respectively.
However, compared to the same period in 2024, exports to China increased by 30.7%, to the US decreased by 29.6%, and to the Netherlands decreased by 3%.
Among the top 10 export markets, high export growth was recorded to Saudi Arabia (up 27.7%) and to Lithuania (up 26.9%).
In August 2025 alone, cashew exports to China reached a record high of 12,210 tons, worth 78.54 million USD. This is a 48.1% increase in volume and a 56.8% increase in value compared to August 2024. With this performance, cashew nut exports to China in the past 8 months reached 108,410 tons, valued at 686.6 million USD, an increase of 30.7% in volume and 48% in value compared to the same period in 2024.
By the end of August 2025, China had surpassed the United States (637.6 million USD) to become the largest export market for the cashew industry.
According to the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS), Vietnam’s cashew exports to China have increased significantly in the past 1-2 months due to Mid-Autumn Festival demand. Meanwhile, exports to the US have decreased. However, Vietnam remains the largest supplier with 69,350 tons, valued at USD 367 million in the first half of 2025.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment aims for cashew exports to reach 4.5 billion USD for the entire year. That means about 1.22 billion USD needs to be reached in the last 4 months of the year, which is considered possible due to high demand during holidays. To achieve this goal, the industry needs to diversify its markets, improve processing quality, and effectively utilize free trade agreements.
