In the first half of 2025, coffee exports reached 5.45 billion USD, a record high in history. With the current growth momentum, it is expected that export turnover of this sector could reach 7.5 billion USD in the whole year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the coffee export volume in June 2025 is estimated at 130,000 tons with a value of 741.1 million USD. This makes the total export volume and value for the first half of 2025 to 953.9 thousand tons and 5.45 billion USD. It is an increase of 5.3% in volume and 67.5% in value compared to the same period in 2024. This is the first time the coffee industry has reached this level in the first half of the year and has achieved its annual target ahead of schedule.
The average export price in the first 6 months of 2025 is about 5,708.3 USD/ton, an increase of 59.1% compared to the same period last year.
Germany, Italy, and Spain are the three largest coffee-consuming markets for Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 16.3%, 7.9%, and 7.4%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the value of coffee exports in the first five months of 2025 to Germany increased 2.2 times, to Italy by 45.1%, and to Spain by 55.8%.
In the group of the 15 largest coffee export markets, the export value increased the most in Mexico, with a rise of 71.6 times, and the least in China, with an increase of 22.9%.
Coffee exports brought in 5.45 billion USD in the first half of 2025.
Coffee export turnover has increased significantly thanks to large order values from key markets such as the USA, the EU, Japan, South Korea, and China. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment believes that this success comes from boosting the export of deep-processed coffee, specialty coffee, and instant coffee, which are segments with high added value.
Especially, the coffee harvest is at the end of the year (from December to April of the following year), so the supply in the first half of the year mainly comes from inventory and reserves. This shows that Vietnamese businesses have proactively planned their production and market approach early.
Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said that the export target for 2025 is expected to reach 5.5 billion USD. However, in the first six months of the year, the value is around 5.5 billion USD. Therefore, the export turnover of the coffee industry is likely to exceed the planned target of 7.5 billion USD in 2025, an increase of 36.9% compared to the same period in 2024.
“The highest yield may be achieved during the harvest season from December to April of the following year, so the export potential in the last months of the year is not as high as in the earlier months. In the last six months of the year, if exports bring in 2 billion USD, the total coffee export value will reach 7.5 billion USD,” Mr. Phung Duc Tien shared.
The US market remains the largest support for Vietnam’s processed coffee, especially instant and specialty coffee. However, the ministry also warned that some partners in the US are seeking alternative suppliers, requiring Vietnamese businesses to enhance their competitiveness.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Asia region, including Japan, China, and South Korea, is emerging as a strong market for consuming Vietnamese Robusta coffee. In addition, new markets such as the Philippines and Thailand are also potential for expanding exports in the near future.
To maintain growth momentum, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that the coffee industry continue to shift towards deep-processing segments, expand export markets, and proactively respond to global economic fluctuations.
