This marked a significant increase of 26.7% in volume and 32.2% in value compared to January 2025. Compared to February 2024, there was an increase of 6.9% in volume and 82.6% in value.

Vietnam’s coffee exports show promising growth.

In February 2025, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to Japan reached 6,175 USD/ton, an increase of 56.1% compared to February 2024. In the first two months of 2025, the average export price of coffee to this market reached 6,163 USD/ton, a significant increase of 76.3% compared to the same period in 2024.

In the export market structure, Japan accounted for only 7.4% of Vietnam’s coffee export turnover in the past two months. However, Vietnam is the second-largest coffee supplier to this country, after Brazil.

Coffee consumption in Japan reached 5.43 billion USD in 2024 and is expected to grow at a rate of 0.47% from 2025 to 2033, reaching an estimated 5.66 billion USD by 2033.

According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan, the European coffee culture has recently had a positive impact on the consumption of hot beverages in Japan, leading to an increase in demand for coffee among young people. This not only makes them consume instant coffee at specialty cafes and branded coffee shops but also encourages them to make instant coffee at home, increasing the demand for various types of instant coffee.

Especially, the close geographical distance gives Vietnam and Robusta coffee an advantage in the Japanese market, as transportation from Vietnam or other producers in the region is only half the distance compared to Arabica coffee from Latin America. And among Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam has the largest and more stable supply compared to Indonesia.

Coffee prices have been increasing strongly in recent months. Analysts believe that concerns about tax increases are causing traders in the country to increase coffee imports. The National Coffee Association (NCA) stated that if the United States imposes high tariffs on Brazilian coffee and coffee from North American countries, coffee prices in the US market will continue to go up sharply.

Most analyses conclude that the high coffee prices are due to the declining export volumes from the two largest coffee-exporting countries in the world, Brazil and Vietnam. The export price of Brazilian Arabica coffee has now reached 8,600-8,800 USD/ton, a record high.
