The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) forecasts that pepper exports in 2025 are likely to achieve a new record of 1.5 billion USD.
According to the VPSA, in the first 18 days of February 2025, Vietnam successfully exported 7,535 tons of pepper, with a total turnover of 51.5 million USD.
Vietnam continues to maintain its position as the world’s No. 1 pepper exporter for over 20 years, accounting for 60% of the global export market share. In 2024, Vietnam exported 230,000 tons of pepper with a turnover of about 1.3 billion USD.
Regarding the export market, the US is still the largest consumer market, accounting for 22.6% of total exports, with 1,700 tons.
The pepper industry aims for an export value of 1.5 billion USD.
In terms of imports, Vietnam has imported 1,297 tons of pepper, equivalent to a turnover of 5.9 million USD. Indonesia is the main supplier, accounting for 66.9% of the import volume with 868 tons. Followed is Brazil with 300 tons, accounting for 23.1%.
The VPSA believes that global pepper production will continue to decline in 2025, while consumption demand is stable. It opens up a great opportunity for Vietnamese pepper exports this year and provides a strong motivation for the industry’s development.
The current export price of pepper has increased by 68% compared to the same period last year. The VPSA said that pepper exports in 2025 are likely to reach a new record of 1.5 billion USD.
According to the VPSA, the Vietnamese pepper industry is shifting from expanding area to enhancing quality, promoting deep processing, and diversifying products and markets to deeply access the global pepper supply chain. Currently, pepper prices are high, so many farmers are boldly investing in caring for existing pepper gardens and replanting the areas that have become old and low-yielding.
Many farmers in the Central Highlands regions are also moving to organic production, ensuring safe products that meet the standards of the export market to enhance the competitive advantage of agricultural products.
