In the first two months of the year, Vietnam exported 1,618 tons of chili with a turnover of 3.9 million USD, up 15.8% over the same period. China accounted for 87% market share with 1,414 tons.
According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, in February 2024, Vietnam exported 884 tons of chili with a turnover of 2.1 million USD, up 20.4%. China remains the largest export market with 766 tons, up 18.2% from the previous month and accounting for 86% of the market share.

In the world, Asia-Pacific dominates the market with China being the world’s largest chili exporter for many consecutive years to many markets such as Korea, Japan, Mexico, Australia, the US, and Southeast Asian countries. The main chili products are fresh frozen chili, dried chili, chili sauce, etc. Each year, China exports about 70,000 tons of chili powder and dried chili.

India is the world’s leading producer and exporter of dried peppers, accounting for more than 6.11% in 2021, followed by Vietnam, China, and Indonesia. India is also the world’s leading producer and consumer of chili with about 36% of global production and exporting about 30% of total production.
In Vietnam, the Mekong Delta is considered the “center” of chili. Here, chilies are grown the most in Dong Thap, An Giang, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Vinh Long, and Tra Vinh provinces with a total area of over 7,000 ha and output of about 100,000 tons a year. Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands, the planting area is about 4,000-5,000 ha with an output of about 60,000 tons a year.
At the end of 2023, the price of exported chili increased strongly by 5,000 VND/kg, leading to a corresponding increase in the price of chili of all kinds. Currently, the price of exported chili ranges from 62,000 – 65,000 VND/kg, chili type 2 from 58,000 – 60,000 VND/kg, and chili at market from 55,000 – 58,000 VND/kg. In comparison, on average, one ton of chilies brings a profit of about 20 million VND with a harvest price of 8,000 – 12,000 VND/kg. Sometimes, the price can be up to 30,000 VND/kg, so farmers can earn from 50 – 60 million VND per ton.
In 2023, Vietnam’s chili exports reached a turnover of 20 million USD, equivalent to 10,173 tons. This was a sharp increase of 107% compared to 2022./.
