In January 2024, Vietnam’s tea was exported to 16 markets, down one compared to January 2023 (Philippines), and down three compared to the whole year 2023.
According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s tea exports in January 2024 reached 12,398 tons, worth more than 21 million USD. This result was down 9.7% in volume and 10% in value compared to the last month but up about 85% in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2023.
In terms of average export price, in January 2024, Vietnam’s average tea export price reached 1,694 USD/ton, equivalent to the average export price in January 2023 but slightly reduced by 3% compared to the price in 2023.

Regarding export markets, in January 2024, Vietnam’s tea was exported to 16 markets, down one compared to January 2023 (Philippines), and down three compared to the whole year 2023, including the Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, and Kuwait.
In particular, Pakistan continues to be Vietnam’s largest tea export market, accounting for 36.7% of the total volume and 43.7% of the total tea export turnover with 4,556 tons, equivalent to nearly 9.2 USD. The figure was up 33% in volume and 52% in value over the same period last year. Pakistan is also a market with a relatively high average export price (2,013 USD/ton).
The Taiwan (China) market ranks second. With a growth of about 87% in both volume and export value, reaching 928 tons, worth nearly 1.4 million USD, Taiwan has increased one rank in the list of Vietnam’s largest tea export markets.
The third place belongs to the US with a total of 913 tons of tea exported, equivalent to a turnover of more than 1.2 million USD, up 191% in volume and nearly double in value over the same period last year.
As the market with the strongest growth in the top five tea export markets of Vietnam, China recorded growth of up to 412% in volume and 145% in value, reaching 701 tons and more than one million USD. However, the increase in tea exports was much higher than the increase in turnover so the average export price to China decreased by more than half over the same period, from $3,067/ton to $1,469/ton.

Poland had the strongest increase, reaching 5.4 times in volume and 6.6 times in turnover over the same period last year with 129 tons, worth 188,881 USD.
The UAE had the second-highest increase with an increase of 409% in volume and 377% in value, reaching 173 tons, and a turnover of 379,221 USD.
In general, the average export price of tea to most markets ranges from 1,300 USD/ton to 1,600 USD/ton. However, Vietnam recorded some markets with higher average export prices than others.
In January 2024, the average price of tea exported to the German market reached nearly 7,579 USD/ton, an increase of 105% compared to 3,696 USD/ton in the same period last year. Tea exports to Germany only increased by 12% in volume but 130% in value, reaching 19 tons, equivalent to a turnover of 143,992 USD.
In addition, some markets recorded high average export prices compared to others such as Saudi Arabia (2,546 USD/ton), the UAE (2,192 USD/ton), and Pakistan (2,013 USD/ton).
There are some markets with decreased average export prices and remained low such as Malaysia (684 USD/ton, down 13% over the same period last year), or Indonesia (991 USD/ton, down 9%)./.
