Vietnam is emerging as one of the world’s major passion fruit production and export countries, consistently recording strong growth in both output and export value in recent years. Currently, Vietnam is among the top 10 largest producers and exporters of passion fruit globally, with about 70–80% of fresh fruit and processed products being exported to over 20 countries and territories.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, passion fruit is now one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing export fruits. By the end of October 2025, the export value of passion fruit reached over 202 million USD, exceeding the 170 million USD for the entire year of 2024. With the current growth rate, passion fruit exports in 2025 are forecast to achieve a record high of 240–250 million USD.

Vietnam is among the top 10 exporters of passion fruit in the world.
An important driver of growth comes from expanding official export markets. Vietnamese passion fruit is now officially exported to China and Australia, two markets with high demand. In addition, relevant authorities and businesses are continuing negotiations to open up the market with the US, Japan, South Korea, and several other countries, thereby creating new growth potential for this industry in the medium and long term.
One of Vietnam’s outstanding advantages is the deep involvement of businesses in the value chain.
Regarding production, the Central Highlands is considered the heart of passion fruit in Vietnam, accounting for over 86% of the area and about 92.5% of the production in 2024. Additionally, some northern provinces like Nghe An and Son La are expanding their area, accounting for about 12.5% of the country’s total area. To date, Vietnam has announced 43 different varieties of passion fruit, meeting the diverse requirements of the export market.
Over 80% of Vietnam’s passion fruits are consumed in processed and fresh forms. This shows the deep integration of this commodity into the global supply chain. Products like passion fruit juice or syrup are becoming increasingly popular in many markets due to their distinctive flavor.
In the long-term development orientation, the agricultural sector aims to build passion fruit into a sustainable commodity within the next 5 years, with a stable area of 12,000–15,000 hectares and a production output of 250,000–300,000 tons. The key growing regions include Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Quang Tri, Nghe An, and Son La.
According to experts, with increasing global demand, especially for purple passionfruit, advantages in processing, and a business-led system, Vietnamese passionfruit can join the billion-dollar export fruit and vegetable sector, thereby making a greater contribution to agricultural growth and farmers’ incomes.
