Vietnam is among the top 10 largest passion fruit-producing and -exporting countries in the world, with 70-80% of its fresh and processed fruit production exported to over 20 countries and territories. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the past 5 years, Vietnam’s passion fruit production and export value have increased by 300%, making it one of the fruits with high export value.
Last year, the export value of passion fruit reached over 170 million USD. In the first 8 months of 2025, the turnover was over 44 million USD, an increase of 48% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, exports of processed passion fruit products reached 126 million USD, an increase of 34% compared to the same period last year.
There is an area of over 12,000 hectares of passion fruit in Vietnam, with a production of about 200,000 tons per year and up to 3 harvests per year. 80% of the annual passion fruit harvest is purchased by businesses for processing and export.

Vietnam’s passion fruit is of world-class quality.
Since July 2022, Vietnamese passion fruit has been exported to the Chinese market on a trial basis, opening up significant opportunities for production expansion. In April 2025, Vietnam signed a phytosanitary protocol with China, opening the way for passion fruit exports through official channels.
It is expected that Vietnamese passion fruit will be exported to the United States in 2025. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association predicts that the export value of passion fruit to the US will reach 50-100 million USD annually. Before negotiating the export of passion fruit to this market, Vietnam successfully negotiated the export of this fruit to Australia in August 2024. At that time, passion fruit became the fifth fruit exported officially to Australia, after mangoes, longans, lychees, and dragon fruit.
According to agricultural experts, passion fruit is expected to soon join the billion-dollar export fruit and vegetable group. There is high demand in global markets for fresh purple passion fruit. Besides, processed passion fruit products such as juice and syrup are also exported to many markets, providing stable and sustainable income for farmers.
It is expected that the export value of concentrated, frozen passion fruit and juice will reach 300 million USD, while fresh exports could exceed 500 million USD this year. Passion fruit, pineapple, and banana are three fruits expected to reach 1 billion USD in the short term with a well-structured investment solution and expanded growing areas.
