The main reason for the cocoa price increase is the concerns about Ivory Coast’s ability to ensure supply for export in the early months of the year.
According to the Mercantile Exchange of VietNam (MXV), by the end of the first trading week of the new year, cocoa drew attention by leading the upward trend after a previous week of deep decrease.
Specifically, the price of cocoa for the March 2025 contract was 11,238 USD/ton, up 11% compared to the reference. The main reason for the cocoa price increase is due to concerns about Ivory Coast’s ability to ensure supply for export in the early months of 2025.

On the other hand, the prices of coffee continued to experience a week of fluctuating trends. Specifically, Arabica coffee prices declined by 1.24% while Robusta coffee prices increased slightly by 0.30% compared to the reference. The market continues to receive mixed information, causing prices to fluctuate.
In the domestic market, coffee prices increased slightly in some provinces and cities. By 11:30 AM, January 6, the domestic coffee prices unexpectedly increased, averaging an increase of 200 VND/kg per session, with current purchase prices ranging from 120,000 to 120,500 VND/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands was 120,400 VND/kg.
Lam Dong remains the province with the lowest coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands region, with a difference of about 400 VND/kg compared to the average price. Compared to the sharp drop last weekend, coffee prices reversed and increased by 200 VND/kg, bringing the market price to 120,000 VND/kg.
Buying at a price higher than 300 VND/kg, the coffee price in Gia Lai province increased slightly by 100 VND/kg, reaching 120,300 VND/kg.
Notably, Dak Lak and Dak Nong ranked first among provinces and cities with the highest coffee purchase prices in Vietnam. The coffee price in Dak Lak increased slightly by 200 VND/kg, while the price in Dak Nong recorded no change compared to the last trading session, listing at 120,500 VND/kg.
